The Blokes Bible is different from many Christian books I have read; firstly it’s not a bible but a collection of bibles stories retold by the author.

Each chapter in the book is a two-parter. The first half is a retelling of a well know bible story, the second is set in Cutters an English pub where the author muses over his bible while having a jar with the locals.

The stories are told in a refreshing way without Christian jargon or spin and are seen from a ‘blokes’ perspective. One of the best ‘images’ from the book is that of God and Adam having fun in the Garden of Eden, chasing each other, naming the animals (Adam forgets which animals are which and God does not allow names like big-eared bum-faced ape.) and Adam realising he needs a mate. He includes tales about Ehud, David, Jonah, John, Ezekiel, Peter, Jesus, Noah and sons, and Samson.

His description of the new heaven / earth is amazing and really made me think about what it is going to be like.

The second half of each chapter are the bits that make you think. Tackling subjects such as lust, money, masturbation, unity and relationships the book does not try to give you answers but make you think for yourself.

He interacts with ‘Young Bank clerk Guy’ ‘grumpy gnarl-handed landlord’ ‘Builder one and builder 2’ and many others helping you understand what is happening in the bible text and how it applies today.

It’s an excellent read and I would recommend it to any Bloke who wants to think for himself and not be spoon fed answers.

I enjoyed this so much I have just ordered the follow up The Road Trip (The Blokes Bible)

I purchased mine from Amazon for £6.50ish
