Amazing Grace – Irish Punk Rock version (think The Pogues)

In my ongoing search to find different versions of Christian songs I came across this version of Amazing Grace. It’s a heady mix of bag pipes, punk guitar and drums all set at a jumping pace. Not for everyone’s taste but I liked it. I don’t think the band is Christian but I would love to be wrong on that front.

Amazing version of Amazing Grace

“It’s Amazing Grace but not as we know it”. I came across this version of Amazing grace while looking for some new music to listen to. It’s by a band called DecembeRadio who have a down and dirty southern rock feel to their music like double trouble, Steve Ray Vaughan, Areosmith and the like.

It’s a reworking of that great hymn amazing grace in that southern rock style. I think it’s amazing, maybe not for a Sunday morning in church, (far too many complaints if you did that) but maybe as a piece at a youth, student or something like our churches worship explosion events.

Anyway enjoy

The fear of the Lord – Rock music with hymnal words

Continuing on in our theme of looking at worship that has depth rather than touch me / feel / me / kiss me/ I hunger / I’m desperate / me me me worship, a fellow Newfrontiers Blogger has pointed me towards a band that uses the hymnal as a starting point for their lyrics.

The band, I am Terrified, are very ‘heavy’ in their music style which of course pleases me but their lyrics have real depth. This song is about having the fear of the Lord (Heb 10:31 and 12:29) and I have uploaded the video for you to have a watch and for those who have difficulty understand the words as this particular style of music is not for them, the lyrics are below.

Come in and take off your shoes
Make your way down from the masses
In through the halls, through the courts
Into His presence
Wash your feet, wash your hands
Make yourself new for the glory
And fear the One, fear the One

Chorus:
Are you afraid of Him now?
I’ve had the best case of
It’s coming around
I swear it’s coming back around
It’s coming around
And it’s taking its toll

Push back the stone

When was the last time we all
Prepared for the way
When is the next time we’ll fall
In awe by Your nail-scarred hands
And we will watch Your feet touch the ground

Chorus

We have seen through the depths and through the guards
To the service
So we can lift up our hands and praise the One
Who has saved us
I can finally say
You are worth more than riches or gold to me
Oh can’t You see?

And we will worship
Like it’s the last time we will

Thanks to Matt for pointing these out
