The beautiful Mrs Beatthedrum and I are currently working our way through a series of preaches by Mark Driscoll of the Mars Hill Seattle church called the Peasant Princess. In it he is going through the Song of Songs and teaching on sex, relationships, marriage, dating, loving your spouse, selflessness and other topics.
We are getting a great deal out of it and by putting some of the things we have learned already into practice we are seeing big changes in our relationship. Praise God we needed help!
It is not very often that Song of Songs is preached on in the non-allegorical sense during a church service and Mark is doing a fantastic job of doing so. In addition to his teaching he and his wife are offering to take text questions at the end of each preach from the congregation. A bold move when talking on this type of subject especially when a number of them have now been posed on youtube
So far he has tackled questions on such topics as Homosexuality, Stay at home dads, Oral Sex , IVF treatment, Masturbation as birth control and porn addiction.
Can I recommend this series of preaches to anyone who is married or who is in the process of getting married. They are excellent, bible based, fun and refreshing.
Oh and if you’re a guy who has been stringing a girl along in a boyfriend / girlfriend sort of way but not committing to her in marriage then I would recommend you watch it, Mark has some very strong things to say about guys like you!
